General Membership Meeting – May 11, 2006

President Jeann’e Butler called the meeting to order and cautioned the members against unruly violations in the Silent Auction. Rosalie then gave the rules for the auction at which time the auction began with browsing, bidding and snacking as it was combined with the social break.  Various owners of auction material were allowed to give a brief statement promoting their items.

The meeting resumed and Rosalie Raudsep thanked the participants and the owners then announced the winners of the bids and payments were made.

Jean Bishop displayed the Raffle Quilt benefiting Samaritan House and invited members to purchase tickets. 

The President thanked Jan and Rosalie for all of their efforts in the successful auction.  Berta Beachell thanked the May hosts and announced the June volunteers.  Show and Tell followed with 16 participants.

Darcy DelaRosa won the block of the month.   Rose showed an example of next month’s block and mentioned the staples have been abandoned with the instructions and put in bags, which the committee requests be returned with next months block.   

Quilter’s Surprise and Pam’s Special Raffle followed.

The minutes of the April meeting were accepted and approved.

The Treasurer read the newest Report.  The records reflect December 1, 2006 through May 11, 2006.  The report reflected a bank balance of $8,020.82.

Committee reports were next beginning with Shirley Gilmore encouraging all participants to turn in their challenges. 

Membership reported 60 members present with one guest, who was introduced and welcomed.

Liz Ritchie reported for charm squares.  June’s fabric will be juvenile prints.  She requested members to continue turning in their 5”squares for quilt show. 

Nan Scott reported raffle ticket sales are doing well and offered some incentives for numerous sales and announced an upcoming tea party.  She also reminded members that July would be the deadline for turning in the tickets.   

Paulette discussed the Row Robin, which reportedly is on track and reminded participants to bring their bag to the June General Meeting. 

Gretchen Lord Jolie thanked members for turning in 18 community quilts.  She also announced a tying scheduled in conjunction with Healthy Quilters May 20, 2006 from the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  She said the committee is requesting more quilts which reflect boy’s interests.

The Quilt Show Committee reported they are proceeding on schedule and mentioned entry forms and sleeve instructions are available at the entrance table.  Jen reminded members that July 7 is the deadline for entrance applications and encouraged everyone to e-mail their quilt histories to Virginia Dale.  A brief discussion followed regarding the necessary photo.

Jean Bishop mentioned that the Kids Corner Chairman Position is vacant and needs to be filled for the Quilt Show.  Suzanne Dandoy requests more items for the grab bags and Isabelle Blower discussed the bed turning briefly.  Cheryl Motther reported 61 blocks have been turned in for the 2007 Raffle Quilt and reminded members that June is the deadline for turning in blocks.

Linda MacKown discussed the upcoming Stained Glass Workshop, which has openings remaining; encouraged sign-ups.  It was announced that Patti Hyder will be at the General Meeting in June, 2006.

The President mentioned the recent survey would be a topic of discussion at the Executive Board Meeting on May 18, 2006 at the Newport Recreation Center and invited all members to attend and participate.

The President read a touching letter from a Florence, Oregon quilter regarding a community quilt contribution made recently in their area.     

The meeting was then adjourned.
