MINUTES OF GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING – AUGUST 10, 2006
ATTENDANCE 65 MEMBERS AND 1 GUEST
Gretchen Lord-Jolie, Vice President, called the meeting to order. She read the Workshop Cost Reduction Proposal prepared by Jen and Bill Reinhart to the guild.
The Vice President acknowledged receipt of the Workshop Cost Reduction Proposal and commented the same will be published in the Newsletter. Members with concerns regarding this issue and others are always encouraged to attend the board meetings.
Gretchen then read the President’s letter thanking the Quilt Show Committee for all their hard work. She then added her own thanks and encouraged members to think about participating in next year’s show.
The program consisted of the winning quilts from the Quilt Show being shown and the checks presented to the award recipients. It was announced that the final meeting for this years Quilt Show will be August 24, 2006 at the Carriage House and all members are invited.
The drawing for the floral arrangements from the Quilt Show was conducted, followed by Berta thanking this months hostesses for the treats and the social break followed.
The Traveling Quilters were the remaining part of the program with Marie Lake discussing her class in Bend, Oregon. Velma, Karen & Paulette then shared the trip to the Chicago Quilt Show with the guild members. The entire group enjoyed the antics.
Show and Tell was next with three members sharing their finished items.
Raffle drawings were next beginning with Quilter’s Surprise and followed by Pam’s Special Raffle and a Round Robin Raffle.
The attendance count of the Quilt Show was announced for each day as 431 for Friday, 420 for Saturday and 234 for Sunday with a total attendance of 1,085. The complete financial results are not yet finished.
New Business started with the approval of the minutes from the previous Newsletter. Gretchen read the Treasurer’s Report reflecting a bank balance of $10,925.01.
Committee reports followed with Rose mentioning Florence Robert’s medical condition. Carol Culton, reporting for membership, stated she would like to welcome the 3 new members who had signed up today along with 4 who joined at the Quilt Show for a total of 7 new members. The number for charm squares was reported as 15, with the reminder that the final number will be reflected in the newsletter.
Nan Scott reported the final figure for the sale of the raffle quilt is $3,199. Paulette and Karen reminded participating members that the next row robin is due in September.
Judi Cooper was happy to report six quilts were tied at the Quilt Show.
Jen reported Healthy Quilters is scheduled for August 19 and requests interested people to contact her. She also reminded members that Open House is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2007.
The program for September is speaker Corliss March. She is the instructor for the following day’s class, Complicated Quilts Made Easy - scheduled for 9/15/06 with a cost of $28 - openings are still available. In October, Jean Amundson will be teaching a class on the cutwork vest for a cost of $22.00. November will be hand appliqué.
Rose Shaw made comments regarding Block of the Month.
Pam Werth acknowledged receipt of numerous books by a donation by Maria Ruh. She further requested all members who have books checked out to return them no later than November as an inventory check is scheduled.
Dolores Wagner thanked the quilt committee for adding the harpist.
