Strip-Piecing Shortcut

From the yellow and green prints, cut 5 strips 2.5 x 40. From the teal fabric, first cut the borders as listed and then cut 5 strips 2.5 x 40 parallel to this cut

Join the yellow, green and teal strips to make te bands.  Cut the bands into 25 units (every 6.5”)

1 Making the Blocks and Rows
Notice that the only difference between blocks Y and Z is the placement of the blue A patch.  Make the Y and Z blocks

Join the blocks to make 3 row 1’s and 2 row 2’s.  Press seam allowance away from the yellow strip on all rows.

2. Completing the Quilt Top
Alternating types, join the rows.  Press seam allowances between the rows in one direction.

For squared borders, sew side inner border strips to the quilt.  Trim the extra length and press seam allowances toward the strips.  Then add the top and bottom inner border strips, trim extra length and press.  Repeat for outer border strips.

3. Finishing the Quilt
Trace the Butterfly Dance quilting and mark a motif randomly placed in each block.  Draw swirling lines free-hand to connect butterflies in each row.

Layer and baste together the lining, batting and quilt top.  Quilt the motifs and lines.  Quilt the borders in the ditch.  Join the binding strips and bind the edges.
