Block of the Month
March-April

March's Block of the Month is called Iris in my Garden by Zelda Wheeler Fasciano

 

Please use shades of Purple or Blue (not pastels) for the iris and your choice of green for the leaves. Finger press 10" block of yellow fabric (included) corner to corner to create a triangle.
Click here for full size Trace placement diagram on to yellow block on point with leaves at the bottom of the point. Cut templates for iris and leaves. Lightly trace embroidery details on applique' pieces D and E. Cut one green bias strip 1" wide by 5" long. Press under raw edges. Align pieces with traced outline placing leaves at bottom corner of square as in picture.
  Using your favorite method of hand applique' (no machine please), applique' stem and one each A, B, C, D, D reversed and E to yellow square on point.
Use 2 strands of gold floss to outline-stitch beards on D petals. With same or coordinating color of floss, work running stitches on each side of outline-stitched E petal. Work running-stitch detail at bottom of E petal. Check placement sheet for location of embroidery stitches.
