September's block of the month is an easy version of 'Drunkard's Path'. It took me about 30 minutes from start to finish to make six 4.5 inch blocks
Your packet contains white tone on tone fabric that you will use for the background. Select the red fabric that you wish to use from your stash
Glue one pattern to card stock to make a hard edge template for tracing.
Trace curved patch template on to freezer paper (not on shiny side) and cut out to make 6 freezer paper templates.
From the white fabric provided cut out 6 4.5 inch squares.
Iron freezer paper templates to wrong side of red fabric - shiny side down.
Cut out red fabric using the template and being careful to allow a quarter inch allowance along the curved edge of the piece.
Rather than using glue to fasten down the curved edge, I turned the freezer paper over - shiny side up. Using the tip of the iron, I pressed the curved edge down to the freezer paper. Then matching the corner and edges, I pressed the curved piece to the white square. The freezer paper will hold it without pinning.
If you choose to use glue, be sure it is water soluble (such as Glue-Baste-It)
Select a zigzag stitch and reduce the stitch width. Sew the curved piece to the white square carefully at the edge of the curved piece. Carefully remove the freezer paper.
Cut away the white square from behind the red curved patch.
Press. Do NOT sew the 4.5 inch blocks together. The winner of the blocks will want to arrange according to shades of red.
