Block of the Month
October-November

Have fun with this cute applique snowman. Background fabric is provided. I left the edges untrimmed so the winner could size as needed.

The pieced choice this month is an old fashioned favorite called Turkey Tracks. The background fabric is included. You supply a contrasting fall print fabric. Measure and piece carefully. The block you submit should measure 11.5" x 11.5"

Cut the background fabric as follows:
1.75" x 4" - cut 4
1.75" x 3" - cut 8
2.5" x 2.5" - cut 4
1.75" x 1.75" - cut 4

Cut fall print as follows:
5 1/8" x 5 1/8" cut 2 then cut once diagonally to yield 4 triangles
2.5" x 6.5" - cut 1
2.5" x 2/5" - cut 2
1.75" x 1.75" - cut 16

Sew a 2.5" print fabric square between two background fabric 2.5" squares. Make 2 of these units. When sewn, the piece in the middle should measure 2" and the entire piece 6.5"
Sew the 2.5" x 6.5" print rectangle between the two pieced units constructed above to form a square 6.5" x 6.5"
Sew a large print triangle to each side of the pieced square to complete the center unit. Set aside.

Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the WRONG side of the 16 dark print 1.75" squares. Place a marked square on one end of a 1.75" x 3" background rectangle, right sides together aligning the edges and sew along the drawn line. Trim seam allowance to 1/4" and press the print toward the corner.

Place a second dark print square on the other end of the rectangle and create the mirror image piece. Make 8 of these units.

*Nan's note - I saved the trimmed triangles and created small blocks from them to use in a community service pillow.

Sew a 1.75" x 4" background rectangle between 2 pieced rectangles to make a pieced strip as shown. Make 4.
Lay out the center unit and four pieced strips and assemble as shown. Press and you're done! Don't forget to enter your name for the drawing. You could be the lucky winner.
