Wind up Easter Bunny

This cute little guy will make you smile as he gathers his appliqued eggs.

Spring Tulip

This bright spring log cabin style tulip is an original design from our BOM lady, Marylynn Kleeman. Choose your own cheery spring fabrics to make this easy block.

Trim the green print fabric provided to size (10.5 inches)

If you fold the piece in half horizontally and again in half vertically and then press, it will make it easier to line up the side triangles so that they are evenly placed.

Square up the patchwork print so that it is straight and even on the grain. Cut two 8.5 inch squares and then cut these diagonally to form four triangles.

Choose a piece of muslin or neutral tone on tone fabric. Trace pattern pieces 1, 2, 4, 6, 10, and 11 and then cut out leaving enough to turn under in needle-turn applique.

Trace pieces 7, 8, and 9 on pastel egg colors; #3 on gray and #12 on pink. I used a piece of high loft batting for the tail (#5)

Applique in order of the numbered pieces and embellish with buttons. Square the block to 14.5 inches being careful to leave at least a quarter inch allowance at each point of the center square.

Don't forget to sign your work on the back in the seam allowance.

Select two pastels, a tulip color and darker spring colors for the lower side of the log cabin.

Follow the directions for cutting.

Sew together a background 2 inch square and a tulip 2 inch square.

Add a background rectangle.

Draw a pencil line diagonally on the 4 inch background square. Place the 4" tulip square right sides together with this background square and sew 1/4 " on either side of the diagonal line.

Cut apart to create two blocks.

Square these two pieces to 3.5" x 3.5"
Lay out the tulip as illustrated and sew together with scant 1/4" seams.
Sew a small background square to strips for leaves. Sew diagonally as illustrated
Sew the leaves to the tulip
Add pastel strips above the tulip and darker colors below. Square up block to 12.5 inches and sign your work on the back in a seam allowance.
Make a scrappy pillow for community quilts from the left overs.
